Roles and Responsibilities
1. EHS Strategy & Leadership
  • Define and implement the organizations EHS vision, policy, objectives, and KPIs.
  • Drive a strong safety culture across all manufacturing, R&D, warehouse, and utility operations.
  • Act as the apex authority for EHS, process safety, and sustainability matters.
  • Advise top management on EHS risks, compliance status, and improvement opportunities.
2. Product & Process Safety (Chemical Industry Focus)
  • Ensure safe design, manufacture, storage, handling, and transportation of chemical products.
  • Lead Process Safety Management (PSM) initiatives:
  • HAZOP, HIRA, JSA, What-If Analysis
  • MOC (Management of Change)
  • Incident and near-miss investigations
  • Ensure availability, accuracy, and compliance of:
  • SDS/MSDS
  • Product risk assessments
  • Chemical compatibility and labeling
  • Oversee emergency preparedness for chemical spills, toxic releases, fires, and explosions.
3. Integrated Management System (IMS QMS, EMS, OHS)
  • Lead design, implementation, and maintenance of:
  • ISO 9001 – Quality Management System
  • ISO 14001 – Environmental Management System
  • ISO 45001 – Occupational Health & Safety Management System
  • Ensure system integration, risk-based thinking, and process approach.
  • Drive internal audits, management reviews, corrective actions, and continual improvement.
  • Ensure SOP standardization, document control, and system effectiveness.
4. Environmental Management & Sustainability
  • Ensure compliance with environmental laws and consent conditions:
  • Air, water, waste, hazardous waste, ETP/STP
  • Lead initiatives for:
  • Waste reduction
  • Energy efficiency
  • Emission reduction
  • Water stewardship
  • Oversee ESG-linked data, environmental KPIs, and sustainability reporting.
5. SMETA (SEDEX) Compliance
  • Act as SMETA owner for the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with:
  • Health & Safety
  • Environment
  • Labor standards
  • Business ethics
  • Lead SMETA audits and ensure closure of findings within defined timelines.
  • Coordinate cross-functional actions involving HR, Operations, and Supply Chain.
6. Eco Vadis Sustainability Management
  • Lead Eco Vadis assessment strategy and score improvement.
  • Collect, validate, and submit evidence related to:
  • Environment
  • Labor & Human Rights
  • Ethics
  • Sustainable Procurement
  • Drive corrective actions and improvement plans based on Eco Vadis feedback.
  • Collaborate with procurement and suppliers for sustainability alignment.
7. Statutory & Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure full compliance with applicable laws, including:
  • Factories Act
  • Environment Protection Act
  • MSIHC Rules
  • Hazardous Waste Rules
  • PESO, Fire, Boiler regulations
  • Liaise with government authorities, inspectors, and third-party auditors.
  • Ensure timely license renewals and statutory reporting.
8. Training, Awareness & Competency Development
  • Develop and implement EHS & IMS training frameworks.
  • Ensure training on:
  • Chemical safety
  • Emergency response
  • Legal compliance
  • Management system awareness
  • Build leadership capability in safety and sustainability.
9. Incident Management & Crisis Leadership
  • Lead investigation of major incidents, process failures, and high-risk events.
  • Ensure root cause analysis and preventive actions.
  • Act as incident commander during emergencies.
10. Stakeholder & Customer Engagement
  • Support customer audits, regulatory inspections, and certification assessments.
  • Represent the organization in EHS, sustainability, and compliance discussions.
  • Ensure alignment with global customer EHS and ESG expectations.
  • Conduct safety audits at plant locations to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop, review, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and standards for the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations related to environment health safety (EHS).
  • Provide training on HSE best practices to employees at all levels within the organization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop risk assessments and mitigation strategies.


Key Competencies & Skills
  • Strong expertise in chemical process safety
  • Deep knowledge of IMS standards (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001)
  • Proven experience with SMETA and Eco Vadis
  • Strategic leadership and decision-making
  • Audit management and regulatory liaison
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills


Qualification & Experience
  • Education:
  • B.E./B.Tech (Chemical / Environmental / Safety Engineering)
  • M.Sc. Chemistry (with Safety qualification)
  • Experience:
  • 12–18 years in EHS / IMS roles in chemical or process industries
  • Minimum 5+ years in leadership or head-level role
  • Certifications (Preferred):
  • NEBOSH / PDIS
  • ISO Lead Auditor (9001 / 14001 / 45001)
